Big Bash League Game Format

According to Big Bash League rules, a total of six matches are played. A Grand Final at the end decides the BBL results. And all the Big Bash teams aim to first end up in the top 5 teams. These top 5 will be allowed to play the knock-out stages, somehow similar to the IPL.

Starting from the bottom, the fifth and the fourth-placed teams will face each other in the Eliminator round. Then comes the Qualifier round where the top two teams will play against each other. 

Now, the winner of the Eliminator and the third-placed team will play in the Knock-out stage. Further, the Challenger round will be played between the loser of the Qualifier and the winner of the Knock-out. Eventually, the Grand Final will happen against the winner of the Qualifier and the Winner of the Challenger.

A total of 8 Big Bash League teams are going to play in the Big Bash League 2022. The same number of teams participated last year as well. These Big Bash teams play a total of six matches before a title winner is announced.

Power Surge in Big Bash League

Power Surge is that unique rule of Big Bash where the fielding side is only allowed to keep two players outside the inner circle. However, the batting side can also opt for this from their 11th over onwards. And with the introduction of this rule, at the beginning of the innings, the Powerplay in BBL is now reduced to four overs. 

X-Factor Player in Big Bash League Game

As per this rule, any team can substitute their X-Factor player after the 10th over of the first innings with the 12th or 13th player on the list. However, for the substitution to take place, the player who is to be replaced should not have batted yet or bowled more than an over. 

Bash Boost in KFC Big Bash League

Bash Boost is a unique bonus point introduced in the T20 Big Bash League. A chasing team can only win this point if they will be able to make more than the equivalent 10-over score of their opponents. Or else, this point will be awarded to the fielding side. It is given during the midway of the second innings and has increased winning points to a maximum of four in a T20 league.
