Exploring the Top NFT Artists and Why They’re Popular

Experts have valued the non-fungible token (NFT) global market share at 20.44 billion USD in 2022. If you want to buy and sell NFTs but were hesitant before, now is a better time than ever to do so. There are hundreds of digital art platforms full of works from highly talented NFT artists.

But, of course, not all NFT art is worth buying. It’s best to invest in only the most sought-after works of art. These have a higher possibility of growing in value as they age.

You may not know which NFT artists are worth investing in. If so, read on. You’ll learn about some of the top NFT artists and what makes them so popular.

What Do the Top NFT Artists Create?

You shouldn’t buy NFTs from the top digital artists without first knowing what NFT art is. You may already know this, but in case you don’t, here’s a quick summary.

When an art collector buys a piece of art, how can they verify it? They usually get an expert on the artist to look at the art and verify if it’s genuine. Unfortunately, the same can’t happen with digital art.

This is perhaps why the concept of NFTs was combined with digital art. The distinct data units an NFT is composed of can help identify a file as the original artwork. Also, no one can modify this data as it’s kept on a highly secured blockchain ledger and locked with an encryption key.

PAK

PAK, formerly known as Murak Pak, is perhaps the top NFT artist in the game and probably also the most prolific. He has sold over sixty-six thousand NFT digital art pieces on a variety of digital art platforms. Together, these pieces are worth over four hundred million USD.

Notable works of his include Cloud Monument Dark (sold for just under a thousand USD) and Clock (sold for over twenty million USD). His collection titled Merge is famous as well. When he put it up for sale in December of 2021, it sold for over ninety million USD.

PAK isn’t only an artist, but also a coder and programmer. He’s credited with creating the AI algorithm Archillect. This helps users scout for images on the internet.

With all that he’s accomplished, it’s completely understandable why people believe that this anonymous artist is a group rather than a single individual. Whatever he is, he’s quite active on social media. Make sure to follow him so you can catch his next great work.

Beeple

Beeple, whose legal name is Mike Winkelmann, entered the NFT game early on. This South Carolinian computer artist has sold over one thousand pieces of art for more than 175 million USD.

The themes in his work are fairly diverse, but there are some common patterns. He often uses well-known political and pop culture characters to critique current events through the use of satire. Also, many of his pieces depict dystopian and fantastical realities that look like they belong in science fiction or fantasy movies.

His most well-known NFT work is Everydays: The First 5000 Days. The piece is a collage of 5000 images that Beeple created from 2007 to 2020. Every day during this time, even when they held significant life events, he would create a new image.

The famous auction house Christie’s sold this piece for over sixty-nine million USD in March of 2021.

Tyler Hobbs

The path that Texan Tyler Hobbs trod to find himself as an artist was a rather bumpy one. He spent years studying many of the classic figure, landscape, and portrait forms of art. However, when he failed to connect with these forms of art, he gave them up.

After receiving a computer science certification in 2010, he discovered and began working on generative art. This form of art is a fusion of art and programming in which the artist uses computer algorithms to create graphic patterns.

Hobbs was able to support himself as a full-time artist starting in 2017, but he didn’t find the work easy. He attempted to start a travel company so that he could deal with his solitude and financial difficulties. When this failed, he created a platform for selling generative NFTs.

Hobbs’ most well-known collection is Fidenza. This was created using his most adaptable algorithm yet. He sold it for over 176 million USD in October of 2021.

Fewocious

Victor Langlois, better known by the name Fewocious, is a 20-year-old Seattleite who’s been creating art since he was 13. He sold his first painting at the age of 17. Since then, he’s been garnering success after success.

In total, Fewocious has earned over fifty million USD through his NFT art sales. His over three thousand NFT creations have vibrant colors and whimsical characters alongside monochrome patches. These seem to represent the artist’s escape from a rough childhood into a playful and imaginative mindset.

One of his works, Nice to Meet You, I’m Mr. MiSUNDERSTOOD, broke a previous Soethby’s record. It became the highest-selling digital artwork that the auction house ever sold in September of 2021. He broke this personal record with his Paint Drop NFT collection in April of 2022.

As of now, the artist has over 100 thousand social media followers. As he’s transgender, he has also become a prominent face of the queer NFT community. It will be fun to see where this young upstart will go in the future.
